Borassus aethiopium

This is a huge palm and as the name suggests hails from Africa. Its fruit is believed by some to have been the “apple” eaten by Adam that caused him to be driven from the garden of eden. The leaves are 10 to 12 feet across on 6 foot petioles armed with black teeth. The fruit are similar in size and shape to small coconuts and contain two to three seeds each.

The palm is dioecious meaning male and female flowers appear on separate trees. Requires full sun and a very large planting area.
