Acanthophoenix Rubra

 

Endemic to the Mauritius and Reunion islands of the Indian ocean is nearly extinct due to the harvesting of the edible part of the palm.  In habitat the palm can reach a height of 50 feet.

 

It  full sun for at least the majority of the day (except when a seedling) and requires a slightly acidic soil that is very very well drained. This palm will not take cold  and its going to be tough growing if above zone 11 although it is said to grow slowly in parts of southern coastal California.
