The “lipstick palm” or “red sealing wax palm” so named for the red wax obtained from the palm and used in the past by nobility to seal envelopes and other documents is a multiple trunked show stoppingly beautiful palm with variations of color that include striking fire engine red crown shafts. This is a tropical palm, and cannot withstand cold, temperatures below 45 degrees F. will cause serious damage if left unprotected. It needs rich, acidic soil, lots of moisture and high humidity which is why it is difficult to use as an indoor plant (air conditioners are dehumidifiers). It grows to about 15 feet needs morning sun or filtered light and is simply stunning.
