Allagoptera arenaria

The seashore palm as it is commonly called reaches a height of about 8 feet but can attain a width of nearly 15 feet. It is indigenous to the southeastern seacoasts of southern Brazil  where  it grows on sand dunes and the very sandy soils of the region. The palm is more shrub like than palm like is  extremely salt tolerant and cold tolerant as well tolerating cold safely in zones 9 through 11 and could probably survive in 8a. It can of course take full, hard, hot sun but does very well in filtered or lightly shaded areas as well.
