Areca Vestiaria (maroone leaf)
A. Vestiaria is usually clustering but often found solitary trunked.. This cultivar, contrary to the other forms of A.vestiaria, will not tolerate direct sun…. it absolutely requires shade.
The really interesting part of this palm is its maroon emergent leaf which remains maroone for quite some time, in fact, taking so long for it to fade to green that by the time it does, a new leaf is unfurling adding even more color to the palm. This cultivar also has a reddish orange to dark red crownshaft
Here in south Florida my guess is that it would attain a maximum height of about 15 feet though in habitat it would be considerably larger… This is a gorgeous addition to the well shaded garden
