A small palm achieving with age a maximum height of six feet which is indigenous to Central America and northern South America.  It needs protection from wind and will not tolerate waterlogged soils so good drainage is a must. It requires shade to filtered light and needs a rich humus filled soil. It will not tolerate frost. This might be an interesting palm to try inside,  if you can provide high humidity and a bright sunny location.
