Licuala peltata var.sumawongii
(Licuala elegans var.sumawongii)

Also known as Licuala elegans var. sumwongii, this variation is so different looking from L.peltata that its hard to believe it’s the same species. Its magnificent leaf is huge and undivided. It is reminiscent of L. grandis but the leaves are much, much larger  and it is much hardier to cold than L.grandis having survived freezing temperatures with no damage, Its huge leaves however are susceptible to damage from wind which could leave them tattered. It looks a lot healthier in shade or filtered light, but can adapt to some direct sun, it likes well drained soil and even grows well in alkaline soils. It must however be totally protected from wind to look its best.
