Thrinax morrisii / leucothrinax

 

common: Key thatch, brittle thatch, peaberry, silver thatch

 

Native to Florida and found throughout the Caribbean this single trunk palm can very, very slowly get up to 30 feet with a trunk diameter of 8 inches. It is cold hardy, salt tolerant, and prefers a sandy alkaline soil in full sun. Though it grows well in filtered light and to some extent will grow in moderate shade. The top of the leaf is green and the underside on older plants is near white.
