Phoenix canariensis
(Canary Island Date)

common names: canary island date palm, pineapple palm

A popular and widely used palm in the landscape of South Florida, although definitely not one of our favorites. It’s big and grows to 40 to 50 feet in cultivation. It will take a good measure of cold and has survived zone 8. It’s both drought and salt tolerant and requires a great deal of space in the landscape and needs full sun.
