Phonicophorium borsiagnum

This drop dead gorgeous palm was once called “the poor man’s pelagadoxa” but has now achieved a status according to some as one of the worlds most beautiful palms….It can’t take freezing and doesn’t like sustained temperatures below 45degrees.. Its petioles and leaf sheaths are covered with long sharp black spines when young but are lost when the palm attains maturity. The petioles vary tremendously in color from green to yellow and are accentuated by emergent leaves which often emerge nearly black. It must be protected from wind to preserve the beauty of those large beautiful entire leaves and can eventually adapt to full sun. However, we suggest a filtered light location away from wind.
